This is the first time Caravaggio is shown in Russia, and is also the most important exhibition on the artist that Italian museums have ever organized abroad. A selection of masterpieces by the artist that have never been seen together outside of Italy before. The main subjects and themes present in Caravaggio’s art are covered in the selected works. These include “Boy with a Basket of Fruit” from the Galleria Borghese in Rome, “The Entombment of Christ” from the Vatican Museums, “The Supper at Emmaus” from Brera and the “Conversion of St. Paul” from the Church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome. Also on view are two versions of “St. John the Baptist”: an earlier version from 1602 from the Musei Capitolini in Rome and one dated a few years later in 1604 from the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica di Palazzo Corsini. The exhibition is curated by Rossella Vodret and Irina Antonova.
