Michelangelo And The Ideal Body
Michelangelo Buonarroti, a crucial player in the Italian Renaissance, and arguably one of the greatest artists of all time, presents the male body as a fundamental element for understanding beauty. While the male body was an important part of Greek art, its “rebirth” would come with the scientific interpretation of beauty that was embodied by the Renaissance. Through sculptures, bronzes, paintings, frescoes, miniatures, glazed earthenware, cameos, engravings and drawings, this exhibition traces the development of male beauty from ancient Greece to the Renaissance.
