The exhibition is dedicated to Picasso’s relationship with mythology and the ancient world -- thus exploring his particularly intense and complex creative process. Curated by Pascale Picard, director of the Municipal Museums of Avignon, it features around 200 works. These include works by Picasso and ancient artifacts from the Musée National Picasso in Paris and other major European museums such as the Musée du Louvre, the Vatican Museums, the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, the Picasso Museum in Antibes, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, the Center Pompidou in Paris, the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris, the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. Throughout the six sections of the exhibition the works of the great artist are combined with masterpieces of ancient art - ceramics, vases, statues, votive plaques, reliefs, idols, stelae - that inspired and deeply influenced him.
