Palazzo Venezia

The exhibition is curated by Claudio Strinati and presents the exceptional life and work of Sebastiano del Piombo. He lived at the same time as some of the greatest Italian Old Masters: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rapahel, Giorgione and Titian. This is the first and only monographic exhibition on the artist, who was born in Venice in 1485. It is shown in Rome, the city where Sebastiano developed his career at a time of great and complex historical, social and religious transformation. From the Counter-Reformation to the Sacking of Rome, to the succession of seven popes over just a few decades. Over seventy works, including large panels, life-size portraits and small paintings on slate, as well as preparatory drawings and comparative works, bear witness to the artist’s entire career. From his colorful early years to the darker geometric abstraction of his maturity.
