Days of exhibition

The exhibition presents a complete overview of the hypnotic, surprising and sometimes unsettling masterpieces by M.C. Escher. The narrative developed by curator Stefano Zuffi traces the numerous stages in the artist's life, focusing in particular on his long stays in Italy. The country’s natural scenery and art were deeply influential for him and left an evident mark on his style. An attentive and faithful landscape artist, as Escher matured he increasingly pushed the boundaries of illusion to design geometric compositions and “impossible” architecture. Over one hundred works by the artist are shown alongside ancient marble fragments with geometric decorations, wooden inlays with similar motifs and engravings by Piranesi illustrating fantastic architecture and evocative landscapes.
