Days of exhibition
Giorgio Morandi. Solo is the first major solo exhibition dedicated to Giorgio Morandi in China. Hosted at the MAP (Museum of Art Pudong, Shanghai), an iconic venue situated in a prestigious location on the Huangpu River in Shanghai, the exhibition is the most extensive and prestigious retrospective ever dedicated to the Bologna-native artist. For the first time, Morandi stands alone at the centre of a new and vast cultural scene. Displaying over 140 works, including oil paintings, etchings, watercolours, and drawings, the project presents a comprehensive and in-depth overview of Giorgio Morandi's entire life's work, gathering rarely exhibited masterpieces and original items in combinations of particular significance.
Through a layout and lighting designed to isolate each work and present it with highest sensitive intensity, the exhibition highlights the evolution of his artistic language: from the solid construction of the still lifes of the 1920s, to the progressive rarefaction of the final landscapes, where shapes tend toward abstractions.
The exhibition is curated by Lorenzo Balbi, director of MAMbo and the Morandi Museum, and by Francesco D’Arelli, director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing.
