Days of exhibition
An Unprecedented Exhibition Dedicated to Leonora Carrington.
From September 20, 2025, to January 11, 2026, the halls of Palazzo Reale in Milan will host an extraordinary retrospective dedicated to Leonora Carrington, one of the most fascinating and visionary figures of the 20th century. Over 60 works — including paintings, drawings, photographs, and archival materials — trace the artistic and personal journey of this remarkable artist who, born in England with deep Celtic roots, travelled across Europe and the United States before settling in Mexico, where she was celebrated alongside Frida Kahlo and Remedios Varo as one of the country’s most important artists.
Curated by Tere Arcq and Carlos Martín, the exhibition is part of the Milano Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympiad and is promoted by the City of Milan – Culture. It is produced by Palazzo Reale, MondoMostre, Civita Mostre e Musei, and Electa, with essential support from main partner Gruppo Unipol and premium partner Pirola Pennuto Zei & Associati.
The show retraces Carrington’s entire creative trajectory, offering an intimate and powerful view of her world — a universe of imagination, rebellion, and profound intellect. It follows both her physical and inner journeys, from the Old Continent to the vibrant heart of Mexico, with the aim of restoring her rightful place in the history of modern and contemporary art.
Following the highly acclaimed exhibition on Leonor Fini — also held at Palazzo Reale and curated by the same team — this new project creates a natural continuation. Fini and Carrington: two free-spirited, nonconformist women, both connected in their own ways to Surrealism. Two artists who forged unique, imaginative, and powerful worlds — voices that resonate even more strongly today.
