A World of Beauty

Museum of Art Pudong
China, Shanghai
27 december 2022 - 21 april 2023

Days of exhibition

The exhibition will present over 70 artworks which in some cases never - or only very rarely - have left the Naples’ Archaeological Museum. Some, in particular the statues from the so-called Farnese collection are absolute masterpieces and they are complemented with artworks found in the Pompeii and Herculaneum excavations.

The Empire of Beauty is an immortal dominion populated by the sculptures, craftworks, tools and everyday objects with which the environments of our imaginations are fashioned. And the different modes in which Beauty is expressed in ancient and modern societies can coexist within a single epoch, building a world of time-spanning visions and common points of contact.

A vision that is still fully contemporary as can be seen through the images of Cinema and nods to that beauty from present-day imagery.

If this dazzling journey is possible anywhere, it is at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples , which – thanks to its unique history – conserves a double historical and archaeological heritage through which to experience anew the Great Beauty of the Roman age, with collections of artifacts from Rome itself (the Farnese Collection) and from the cities destroyed by Vesuvius in 79 AD (Herculaneum, Pompeii, Stabiae).

Guiding the visitor through a series of sections, this exhibition reconstructs the immortal elements of this great and timeless Beauty.
