Culture and Society in the 19th Century Collection from the Capodimonte Museum in Naples

My Art Museum
Republic of Korea, Seoul
1 august 2025 - 30 november 2025

Days of exhibition

The exhibition at the My Art Museum in Seoul features a selection of 68 paintings and pastels from the 19th and early 20th centuries from the Nineteenth Century Collection of the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte in Naples. The works include female portraits, interior scenes, as well as urban and natural landscapes.

These carefully selected artworks aim to present the local audience with a vision of Naples as a city with an international artistic spirit, a city marked by striking contrasts and a vibrant cultural energy. At the heart of the exhibition is the period that saw the transition from the Bourbon kingdom to the unification of Italy: a time of profound political and social change that is powerfully reflected in the imagery and themes of the paintings from that era.

Starting from the local context, the exhibition broadens its scope to encompass Italy and Europe, highlighting Naples’ significance as a major international artistic center and offering an authentic perspective on the society and transformations of the time.

Curated by Maria Tamajo Contarini and Patrizia Piscitello, the exhibition is organized by My Art Museum with loans from the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, and it is made possible thanks to the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture, Dipartimento per la valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale, Embassy of Italy and Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul. The exhibition is part of the official program of Neapolis 2500 celebrations.
