Days of exhibition
Promoted and produced by Fondazione Roma in collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, with organizational support from MondoMostre, the exhibition—curated by Cäcilia Bischoff—presents, for the first time in Italy, over fifty masterpieces drawn entirely from the KHM collections. Through works collected or commissioned between the 16th and 18th centuries by members of the Habsburg imperial family, the exhibition explores the history and identity of the Viennese museum, an institution that embodies the splendor of an empire and the intellectual ambitions of a dynasty.
A dedicated section focuses on the architecture of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, designed by Gottfried Semper and Carl Hasenauer, in dialogue with Palazzo Cipolla and its architect Antonio Cipolla. The exhibition also brings together masterpieces by leading European artists—from Rubens and Velázquez to Titian and Tintoretto—alongside a precious selection from the Kunstkammer, one of Europe’s most extraordinary “cabinets of curiosities,” celebrating the encounter between nature, art, and knowledge.
