Days of exhibition
The CRC Foundation and Intesa Sanpaolo present, at the San Francesco Monumental Complex, the exhibition The Age of the Baroque. Bernini, Gentileschi, Rubens, marking a new chapter in the collaboration that has been bringing major figures from art history to Cuneo since 2022. Organised with the support of MondoMostre and curated by Maurizia Cicconi and Alessandro Cosma, the exhibition features a carefully curated selection of 25 works from the National Galleries of Ancient Art in Rome – Palazzo Barberini and the Galleria Corsini – institutions that house one of the most important public collections of Italian and European art from the 13th to the 18th centuries.
Through the masterpieces of 17th-century masters – including Bernini, Gentileschi, Rubens, Guercino, Guido Reni, Annibale Carracci and Domenichino – the exhibition does not aim to exhaust the complexity of Roman Baroque, but rather to convey its vitality through its key figures, dominant ideas and the mechanisms of an ambitious cultural project. From the early decades of the century through to the full establishment of the Barberini style, and on to its legacy during the pontificate of Alexander VII Chigi, the exhibition traces Rome’s gradual transformation into the undisputed capital of the Baroque and the profound impact that this period had on European artistic culture.
