Masterpieces from the Detroit Institute of Arts

Impressionism and Beyond. Masterpieces from the Detroit Institute of Arts brings to Rome 52 paintings by major European artists from the 19th and 20th centuries. From the innovations of Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Pissarro and Sisley, through Van Gogh, and up to the avant-gardes of Picasso, Matisse and Modigliani, the exhibition traces the radical transformation of modern painting: from Impressionist light to color as an autonomous expressive force, from everyday realism to Cubism and Expressionism.

The exhibition concludes with a substantial section dedicated to German art and to the Die Brücke and Blaue Reiter movements, featuring works by Kandinsky, Beckmann, Feininger, Nolde and other key figures.

The show is promoted by Roma Capitale – Department of Culture and the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, co-produced and organized by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina and MondoMostre, with the support of Zètema Progetto Cultura.
Curators: Ilaria Miarelli Mariani and Claudio Zambianchi.

A rare opportunity to see in Italy masterpieces that seldom travel outside the United States, offering a sweeping view of fifty years of European artistic revolutions.
